About the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu

Wing Chun represents over 300 years of evolution in Chinese martial arts. It is the scientific use of the body for fitness and defense. Wing Chun was the foundation behind the fighting philosophy of the world famous Bruce Lee.

Is Wing Chun Kung Fu also a fitness program?

Wing Chun training has excellent means of achieving overall body conditioning and weight control. All parts of the body are used in a typical workout. The advantage of Wing Chun Kung Fu as a fitness program is that you are exercising while learning valuable self defense skills. The training involves increasingly complex movements as students improve their skills. The more advanced the training, the more interesting and fun it becomes. The advanced levels are easily reached since basic fitness and defense goals are taught at the entry level.

Does Wing Chun Kung Kung Fu exercise the mind?

Yes! Through the exercises and movements involved in Wing Chun training, the power of concentration is improved in order to accomplish the required techniques. Self confidence is improved as the individual achieves ever increasingly difficult goals, self control is improved by learning to respond to any situation in a positive way and self discipline is improved in that force is taught as a defensive tool rather than an aggressive weapon.

Who Can Learn

Who can learn Wing Chun Kung Fu?

Men and women of ages 7 and older can easily learn Wing Chun. The ability of younger students is dependent upon their individual motor skills. You do not have to be in good shape to begin training. Anyone willing to work hard and concentrate can learn Wing Chun.


Does Wing Chun Kung Fu make people aggressive?

No! On the contrary, studies show that training actually decreases aggressive tendencies in most people. After all, Wing Chun was originated by a women and teaches not to fight force against force.

How Long

How long does it take to learn Wing Chun Kung Fu?

Classes are about one hour and a half long and most students attend 2 to 3 classes a week. Obviously, the more diligent a student is about attending class and practicing at home, the faster he or she will progress. As students progress, they test for and earn sash (belt) ranks. It usually takes about 4 months to advance from one sash level to the next.
