Master Michael G. Papantonakis

Yip Man & Bruce Lee

Michael G. Papantonakis was born in 1961, Manhattan, New York, and was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Growing up in difficult neighborhoods and in an era where the name Bruce Lee had its greatest impact, he was drawn into studying the martial arts.

He began his training in the martial arts in 1979, where he researched various styles without finding an art that would express him, until he began practicing Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu.

In 1983, Michael trained with Sifu Johnny M. Clayton, who was a 10th level disciple of the well known Grandmaster William Cheung. During his training in The

Wing Chun Academy of Maryland, Michael fought on Johnny Clayton΄s tournament fighting team. Through his experience in the tournaments and with John Clayton's fighting expertise, he learned how to use Wing Chun effectively in Point System Fighting. In 1985, Michael had already become the Grandchampion in John Clayton΄s East Coast Wing Chun Fighting Tournament.

While training with John Clayton, Michael also attended Grandmaster Cheung's Wing Chun seminars in Baltimore. Fascinated with the Grandmaster, in 1988, he decided to go to Melbourne, Australia to train at the Australian Wing Chun Academy that was headed by Grandmaster Cheung himself. In the William Cheung Academy, Michael underwent special training with the Grandmaster and taught many students from the international community.

By the end of 1988, Michael had received his 6th level Instructors Certificate from the Grandmaster, officially making him the Head Instructor of Greece for the World Wing Chun Kung fu Association. He then left Australia and went to Greece, and in 1989 he served a military term in the Greek army obtaining his rights as a Greek citizen. In November of 1989 he opened the first Wing Chun Academy of Greece, representing the William Cheung Organization.

Immediately following that seminar, the Grandmaster honored Michael by making him an elite family member of the William Cheung Organization and placing him as one of the top instructors for the World Wing Chun Kung Fu Association.

Michael received his 10th and final level from the Grandmaster in 1993, completing his training in the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu. Since then, he has been refining and promoting Wing Chun internationally through the media and seminars in the U.S.A., Poland and Greece (Athens and Thessaloniki).

In 1998, Michael founded the Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Association in Greece. His Wing Chun Kwoons are located in the areas of Voula and Dafni
